Description:

As part of a FÁS project from 1995 to 2001 arts organisation Alternative Entertainments Ltd, worked with a group of FÁS participants to create a number of sculptures in mosiac which are situated around various areas of South Dublin County.

These include Babouscka’s, Dogs, Sofa and Armchair, Shepherd and Sheep and School Mosiacs. The three Babousckas  took the rounded form of the classic Russian doll and were decorated with broken tile in the mosaic technique. They are installed in private front gardens in the Jobstown area.

A series of Dogs in mosaic is installed in the foyer of the Civic Theatre, 2001.

A mosaic Sofa and Armchair was developed in 1997. Sofa is installed in the garden behind Kiltalown House, Jobstown.

Shepherd and Sheep was created by Vincent Brown, an artist with Alternative Entertainments Arts Group in 1995-1997. This sculpture consists of a shepherd, his hand raised to his brow, shading his eyes, on the lookout for his mosaic sheep. These concrete and mosaic covered sculptures were initially installed in front gardens in a residential area of Killinarden and also St. Thomas’s Primary School Jobstown. A mosaic wall panel  (designed by the students) was created for Jobstown Community College in 2000.
