Description:
Boy by Paul Hickey is oil on canvas, dimensions 94 inches in height by 68 inches in width. The painted image is a young boy's head and shoulders, painted as black dots on white. It mimics a printed image, painted as if the image was taken from a newspaper, and enlarged to fit the canvas. On close viewing it is difficult to see clearly the boys face, the dots stand out as individual shapes, but as you move away the image becomes distinct; a young boy wearing a white collared shirt and dark jumper, smiling. The painting was commissioned on the occasion of the new building of the Social Welfare Offices in Tallaght.
