Description:

Casting and Aperture  was commissioned by South Dublin County Council and awarded to artist Fiona Murphy for the opening of the new Civic Theatre in Tallaght. Sited in the atrium and on the top balustrade of the stairs, the figure’s outspread hands frame an aperture to the external courtyard. The figure casts a soft shadow on the atrium floor, appearing to face both inwards and outwards. It reflects on representations of internal and external self. Glass elements on the balustrade and glass façade reflect on shadow theatre. Fingerprint details on the glass balustrade are punctuated with lenses; metaphors of of individual expression and creativity, that distort and magnify movement within the central atrium.
