Context Background:

Commissioned by Pact to commemorate their 50th anniversary and 50 years of adoption in Ireland. Pact is an independent Irish charity founded in 1952 as an adoption agency and provides a broad range of services in the area of adoption, information & tracing and unplanned pregnancy. Pact entered into discussions with South Dublin County Council about the location for the sculpture and Tymon Park North was chosen as a most suitable location.

The sculpture consists of large bronze leaves that take the form of an arm which extends from the ground up into three hands. These hands cradle a golden bronze baby, in a nest of leaves. Dimensions are 1 meter wide x 2 meters high. The sculpture was designed by the artist to symbolise the three pronged nurturing aspect of the work of Pact. It is set in an attractively planted area by a lakeside in the park. Unveiling by Miriam O’Callaghan on 9th September 2006. Press photos in a selection of newspapers including the Examiner.

Artist Biography:

Linda Brunker has been a full time sculptor since graduating from NCAD in 1988. She developed her own innovative style of bronze casting. She had solo shows in Dublin, New York and Los Angeles and has completed private and public commissions worldwide. Public commissions include Voyager  a 10ft female figure made from a filigree of bronze elements from the sea which overlooks the Pacific Ocean at the Montage Hotel in Laguna Beach, The People’s Council City Hall, Laguna Beach and The Wishing Hand Dept. of Education, Marlborough Square, Dublin.

From her studios in Southern California and Dublin she makes sculptures on all scales from monumental corporate and public sculptures to small tabletop pieces in bronze or stone. Her sculptures are predominantly based on the human form. She typically incorporates elements taken from nature such as leaves, feathers or shells to create images “composed into flowing shapes which echo the rhythms of wind, fire and water.”
